What is Worship for Life?
Worship for Life is a resource collection
of multidimensional materials to help children, as well as youth and
adults, explore and experience the broad theme of Worship and 12
components of a service of worship including:
- Call to Worship
- Invocation
- Music
- Confession/Assurance
- Creeds
- Prayer
- Scripture
- Proclamation
- Sacrament of Baptism
- Sacrament of Communion
- Offering
- Benediction
The ultimate goal is to provide resources that engage
all ages in understanding the parts of a worship service and in
integrating their renewed appreciation of worship into congregational
life.
Who can use Worship for Life?
This resource collection can be used in
congregations by clergy, Christian educators, and lay persons; in
schools by administrators and teachers; and in homes by parents and
grandparents.
Lessons are designed for children in kindergarten through grade five but
are also adaptable for boys and girls in pre-school and young people in
middle grades. However, youth and adults of all ages will appreciate the
focus of these lessons. The materials are also appropriate for
intergenerational approaches to understanding worship.
Where can Worship for Life be used?
In congregations, leaders may use parts of
this collection as children's messages in worship, activities in
children's church, lessons in Sunday school classes, instruction in
midweek ministries, studies in youth groups, exercises at church camp,
and in many other ways.
In schools, teachers can use the lessons as meditations in chapel
services and as curriculum in classrooms.
In families, parents can use the information to begin conversations
about worship and to devise shared devotional experiences. The materials
are also appropriate as a home school resource.
Why use Worship for Life?
Worship for Life is unique. This
ready-to-use collection of materials helps children explore and
experience various aspects of worship. Those who use the materials will
explore new ways of representing worship skills with activities based on
the concept of the eight multiple intelligences: bodily/kinesthetic,
interpersonal/relational, intrapersonal/introspective,
logical/mathematical, musical/rhythmic, naturalist, verbal/linguistic,
and visual/spatial. This brain-based learning method will translate into
renewal for communities of faith as they apply these approaches in
congregational settings.
These lessons meet a need felt across denominational boundaries within
the Christian church. By teaching children the skills they need to
become active participants in worship, this resource helps pastors,
educators, and parents teach the elements of Christian worship so that
children are not simply going through the motions but are truly
comprehending and participating in the believer's responsibility to
worship God in spirit and in truth.
